Brian Waters is not such a big fan of training camps (apparently).
He didn't show up for training camp last year with the Patriots, and the veteran guard proved his point by not playing the entire season as he waited to earn his release. In 2011, Waters signed with New England days before the regular season and then proceeded to have a strong season with the Patriots.
Looks like Waters has gotten out of preseason practice again and signed with a new team just before the 2013 regular season starts. This time, Waters will join the Cowboys, according to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora.
The two sides have been dancing around each other in free agency for much of the offseason, and as recently as the middle of last month, the contract talks were characterized as dead.
In fact, the Cowboys signed a deal with former Jets guard Brandon Moore, but after sleeping on his decision, Moore changed his mind and retired instead.
But two days before Week 1 officially kicks off, Waters worked out with the Cowboys and he was good enough to sign.
There's a good chance Waters won't play in Week 1 as he gets up to date on his conditioning and on the Dallas offense, but the 36-year-old, six-time Pro Bowler shouldn't be out of the starting lineup for long.
And yes, Waters has survived another preseason camp without actually stepping foot in one.
Brian Waters has this whole thing figured out. My new idol.— Ross Tucker (@RossTuckerNFL) September 3, 2013
