Riley Cooper, Cary Williams fight at Eagles practice

By Will Brinson | NFL Writer

The story involving Riley Cooper using racial slurs at a Kenny Chesney died down about as well as you can expect given all the nightmarish circumstances involved. Somehow all of Cooper's teammates appeared to forgive him and none showed any aggression towards the Eagles wide receiver. Until Thursday anyway.

That's when cornerback Cary Williams and Cooper ended up getting in a fight, according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The fight "required several players" to separate the two players, including quarterback Michael Vick, who was particularly outspoken in his support of Cooper after the incident.

We can't guarantee that the fight occurred because of the Cooper incident, but connecting the dots isn't that difficult. Williams previously said there was an "elephant in the room" when it came to Cooper's concert video.

The fact that Cooper, per McLane, was "visibly distraught" and "stayed out of the one-on-one drills" with wideouts and defensive backs until he was approached by fellow wide receiver DeSean Jackson only lends further credence to the notion.

Cooper downplayed the altercation afterward. Williams declined to speak to the media.

"Both being super competitive, going for the ball," Cooper told the Associated Press. "We had a tangle-up at the ball, we both went to the ground. There was a lot of contact at the top of the route.

"It was nothing."

This isn't the first preseason fight Williams has been in, either. Earlier in training camp he fought with rookie Patriots wide receiver Aaron Dobson when the two teams were practicing together.
