Steelers' Pouncey, Foote facing surgery, could be lost for season

The Steelers' 2013 season got off to a fantastic start -- a miscue by Titans returner Darius Reynaud led to a safety three seconds into the game -- but the rest of the afternoon featured some of the worst offensive football you'll ever see. But the Steelers' inability to score wasn't the only bad news to emerge from Sunday's 16-9 loss.

Center Maurkice Pouncey left early in the first quarter with a knee injury. After the game, coach Mike Tomlin announced that Pouncey injured his ACL and MCL and is facing surgery. CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports that the team is waiting on the results of an MRI but there is every expectation Pouncey will need season-ending surgery.

There's more: Starting inside linebacker Larry Foote, who was forced from the game with an arm injury, suffered a ruptured biceps, and he, too, will need surgery.

What this means going forward: Kelvin Beachum, who entered Week 1 as the No. 1 backup at every offensive position, will assume the center duties. Kion Wilson, a former undrafted free agent who was a surprise to make the 53-man roster, replaced Foote on Sunday. Whether he'll get the nod going forward remains to be seen.

Whatever Tomlin and his staff decide, this much is certain: The Steelers have little margin for error going forward. The team looked out of synch against the Titans, and the schedule only gets tougher. Pittsburgh will travel to Cincinnati next Sunday night, and then they'll face the Bears and Vikings.
