As Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert battled a thumb injury heading into Week 1, it wasn't clear until Sunday morning that the third-year quarterback would be ready to start against the Chiefs.

Luckily for the team, he started. Not so luckily for the team, he was pretty terrible in Jacksonville's 24-2 loss.

But here's another reason Gabbert had such a painful-looking experience on Sunday. As the Florida Times Union points out, Gabbert needed 15 stitches to close a cut in his throwing hand after the game.

Gabbert said he cut his hand late in the contest when he caught his hand on somebody's shoulder pad, and he was replaced by Chad Henne. With his latest injury, you have to wonder if something like that will have an effect on Gabbert getting ready to start Week 2 or if the team will have to count on Henne.

"We'll see how it is tomorrow," Gabbert said, via "It's another day-to-day thing, and we will see how it is and move on."

On the day, Gabbert completed 16 of 35 passes for 121 yards and two interceptions.
