Week 1: Eagles looks to overshadow RG3; Texans want to shine

By Eye on Football staff | CBSSports.com

Eagles at Redskins, 6:55 p.m. ET: Robert Griffin III returns to the field for the first time since suffering a serious knee injury last January, and he will resume the burden of carrying the hopes and dreams of a desperate fan base on his back.

But the biggest comeback story might be on the other side of the field with Michael Vick. He'll be the centerpiece of Chip Kelly's up-tempo offense, one that, during the preseason, had Vick looking as confident, comfortable and decisive in the pocket as we have seen him in years. That's huge. Because when Vick is on, he's tough to stop. He was Robert Griffin III when RG3 was still in high school, and if Kelly can recapture some of that, then the Eagles could be one of the biggest surprises in 2013.

On defense, the Redskins will be tasked with trying to keep up with the Eagles' breakneck pace, while Philly's D will have to prove that it has overcome its aversion to tackling, a condition that plagued the unit for most of the 2012 season.

Texans at Chargers, 10:20 p.m. ET: For the Texans to get off to a good start and fulfill many of our prophecies of taking the AFC South title, a win against the Chargers is imperative. Considering quarterback Philip Rivers is coming off an underwhelming season, the receiving depth is thin and running back Ryan Mathews continues to search for a standout season, San Diego's offense might have a tough time against Wade Phillips' defense.

But Houston has questions on offense as well. Can Arian Foster, who has been unhealthy all preseason, return to form? If not, can Ben Tate pick up the running slack? And will Matt Schaub, never considered an elite quarterback, play well enough, a la Joe Flacco, to lead his team deep in the playoffs?

A win against the Chargers wouldn't produce answers to all those queries, but a loss in San Diego would force us to ask even more.
