Tony Romo's X-rays negative, QB expects to play in Week 2

A day after two Giants defenders met in the backfield to make a Tony Romo sandwich, X-rays showed that the Cowboys quarterback avoided a serious injury to his ribs, which means that he's not expected to miss the team's Week 2 game against the Chiefs.

"We feel optimistic with the tests coming back negative," Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones told 105.3 The Fan. "He'll be sore but something he'll be able to play with, as it looks right now."

Romo suffered the injury late in the second quarter of the Cowboys' Sunday night win over the Giants. He missed one play, but finished the evening with 36 of 49 for 263 yards, 2 touchdowns and an interception.

After the game and before the X-rays, Romo sounded unconcerned.

"It's just part of playing football," he said. "You take some hits sometimes and you've got to come back from it. We had plenty of guys do the same thing tonight, and it was no different. ... I'm going to be fine. My [injury is] nothing crazy."

Team owner and general manager Jerry Jones sounded impressed with Romo's toughness.

"You've got to come to the conclusion that this is one tough player, one tough man," Jones said.

No word on if Jones wishes Jay Ratliff shared that toughness.
