The Jets are coming off an improbable win against the Buccaneers, and the Patriots needed a last-second field goal to beat the Bills. Now, Rex Ryan and Bill Belichick match wits in a Thursday-night showdown that should -- on paper, anyway -- result in an easy Pats win.
On the latest Eye on Football Podcast, Will Brinson and Ryan Wilson talk about why the Jets have to be taken seriously -- Ryan won three of his first five matchups against Belichick … but in the four games since, the Jets are 0-4, losing by an average of 16 points. But New York's defense, starting up front with Muhammed Wilkerson up front and Antonio Cromartie on the back end, are a much better group than recent units.
And the Patriots, which entered the season without their top five receivers, could be down one more Thursday: Danny Amendola will almost certainly be sidelined with a groin injury, which means that Julian Edelman, former college quarterback, will be Brady's top target.
So is there a chance the Jets wake up Friday morning sporting a 2-0 record and find themselves alone in first place in the AFC East?
