Tannehill on Wallace: 'We're not going to force him the ball'

Mike Wallace's debut with the Dolphins can kindly be described as underwhelming; he was targeted five times against the Browns and managed just one catch for 15 yards. Afterwards, he wasn't interested in talking about it, telling reporters they should refer all questions to the coaching staff because it wasn't his "game plan."

To be fair, some of the credit should go to cornerback Joe Haden, one of the league's best young cornerbacks. Via SI.com's Andy Benoit.

And in the first half, the Dolphins' game plan didn't seem to include Wallace.

Against the Colts this week, Tannehill insists that he won't force the ball to Wallace, who signed a five-year, $60 million contract this offseason to upgrade a decidedly mediocre receivers corps.

“I'm going to play the quarterback position the way coaches install the plays; I'm going to go through the reads just like they install it,” Tannehill said, via the Palm Beach Post. “We're going to try to get him the ball when he's in the play, but we're not going to force him the ball. …

“Mike was obviously in a tough spot at the end of that game but everything is 100 percent normal in the locker room,” said Tannehill, who spoke with Wallace after the win over the Browns. “He's great, practicing hard every day, joking around. He's his same old self. He's looking forward to getting back on the field this week.”

How long the joking lasts is another matter because this Sunday won't be much different for Wallace, at least to hear Colts defensive coordinator Greg Manusky tell it.
