Redskins S Brandon Meriweather gets worst of helmet-to-helmet hit

By Ryan Wilson | CBSSports.com

A quarter after Brandon Meriweather concussed Packers running back Eddie Lacy with a helmet-to-helmet hit, the Redskins safety was involved in another helmet-to-helmet collision.

This time, Meriweather caught the worst of it from Packers running back James Starks, while trying to make a tackle along the sidelines. Meriweather, who has appeared in just one of 17 games since arriving in Washington prior to the 2012 season, immediately went to the ground. He stayed there for several minutes before walking off the field under his own power.

Meriweather battled multiple knee injures last season, and a groin injury forced him to miss the Week 1 loss to the Eagles. Redskins' safeties Bacarri Rambo and E.J. Biggers were summarily abused by Philly and Michael Vick.

With Meriweather out, the 'Skins opted to keep Biggers on the bench and go with Reed Doughty. Early in the second quarter, Green Bay leads Washington, 17-0.
