Ray Rice leaves with hip injury, initial tests show no issues

By Will Brinson | NFL Writer

The bad news: Ray Rice limped off the field and into the locker room with a non-contact injury. The good news: Rice's injury was a hip injury and CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports initial tests don't show any major issues.

A source with knowledge of the situation tells La Canfora that initial tests on Rice did not reveal structural problems and appeared more muscular in nature. He was not on crutches and was walking on his own, La Canfora reports. The Ravens have more tests planned but initial tests are positive.

Not that hip injuries are good, mind you, but it's much better to have a hip injury, I tend to think, than a knee injury.

After Rice departed, Bernard Pierce took over the carries for the Ravens, as expected.

They didn't even need Pierce, however, as Joe Flacco hit Marlon Brown for a touchdown to give the Ravens an eight-point lead.

Losing Rice -- especially given the struggles of the Baltimore passing game this year -- would be devastating obviously.
