After benching, Kenny Britt says, 'I have no regret about the tweet'

In two games this season, Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt has five catches for 43 yards and no touchdowns. According to, Britt ranks 98th out of 101 NFL wide receivers (ahead of only Kenbrell Thompkins, Greg Little and Eric Decker).

This could explain why the former first-round pick sounded unhappy with his current role in Tennessee. On Tuesday, he tweeted this: "Looks like the Titans pullin' that Jared Cook card. Looking like this the last year I'll be sayin' #TitanUp. So lets make it a great year."

The implication: Like former Titans tight end Jared Cook, who signed with the Rams in the offseason, Britt expects to be elsewhere in 2014.

But this isn't about Britt's lack of productivity; according to the Tennessean, he was benched in Week 2's loss to the Texans because he was called for a holding penalty.

“That's two weeks in a row he's had a holding call, so it was more to refocus him,” Titans coach Mike Munchak said Monday. “It cost us a 10-yard penalty on a 10-yard gain, and we can't have that.”

On Wednesday, Britt was asked about the meaning behind his tweet.

“I am not a selfish person, and I really don't care about getting the ball or anything like that,” Britt said, according to the the Tennessean's Jim Wyatt. “It's just a point of them saying they took me out because of [blocking].

"Were they wrong for benching me? I believe so," he continued. "And I believe the excuse they gave was wrong because at that point in time when they did bench me it had nothing to do with me having mistakes. … I saw what happened with Cook last year, and them saying he wasn't getting the ball because he was making mistakes. I don't think that was the case last year, and I don't think that's the case with me this year.”

In two games with the Rams, Cook has eight receptions for 151 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Titans, meanwhile, say they aren't worried about Britt's tweeting habits, or his lack of production to date.

“I have no problem with Kenny," Munchak said. "He is fine. He is working hard. He is part of our football team and he is going to help us win on Sunday. We are fine going forward.”

As for whether Britt has any second thoughts, well, he doesn't.

“I have no regret about the tweet,” he said. “It's more regret about how people took it and thought I was being selfish on my part, which really wasn't the case.”
