LT: Life & Times: Taylor humbled, apologetic by documentary process

By Josh Katzowitz | NFL Writer

For the past few weeks, we've brought you previews of LT: The Life and Times, the documentary that will air Friday at 8 p.m. ET on Showtime. Now, we get to hear from the man himself and discover what he thinks about the idea of an in-depth look at his own life.

“To see your life through the eyes of others, man, that's a bitch,” Taylor said. “That's hard to handle. It's very humbling. I really apologize to the people that I harmed, especially my kids. That was very humbling.”

While the documentary will showcase the former Hall of Famer's career and just how damn good he was as a player, Taylor isn't the first to recognize that he's had his fair share of problems off the field. Now, he gets to hear how those actions impacted those around him.

“Just watching this film and reflecting back, to see yourself through other people's eyes, is very humbling,” Taylor said.” I never knew that my kids felt that way, or family members felt that way, or my teammates felt that way.”

More from Taylor:

“Rehashing the past comes up a lot when people do documentaries,” he said. “There's a point, when something has happened a long time ago, that you really don't want to bring it back up or make it fresh in anybody's mind. You just want to cruise over it and not think about it anymore. There were a lot of times that stuff came up and I didn't want to go through it again.

“I'm at the stage now, that I really don't mind talking about a lot of things that happened in my past because it's all in my past and I don't worry about it. I'm at a different stage than I would have been like 15 or 20 years ago.”

Taylor said he hasn't seen the documentary yet. And yes, he says he's nervous to see the story that Pete Radovich, the director and co-producer of the doc, will tell.

“I'm confident that he is not going to sugar coat it, but he's going to tell the story the way it is,” Taylor said. “I'm well past the stage of caring or worrying about other people's opinions.”
