Lions' Louis Delmas fined $5,000 for wearing wrong color socks

The NFL's fine schedule for players violating various rules can be confusing at best, frustrating at worst. Yes, the league has laid out the consequences for particular infractions, but that doesn't necessarily mean the punishments fit the crime.

Which brings us to Lions safety Louis Delmas, who was fined $5,000 for … wearing the wrong color socks. He went with blue and black while the league only permits Lions players to wear blue and white, or all blue.

Not surprisingly, Delmas wasn't happy about having his wages garnished. So when did the league inform him that his check this week would be five grand lighter?

"When you get the damn check," Delmas said, via Mlive.com.

We know, it's right there in the fine schedule (.pdf) as plain as day, but $5,000 is still exorbitant, particularly when a late hit, low block or chop block will only run you $7,500.

Delmas says the Lions' equipment staff didn't tell him his socks were in violation of the NFL's dress code, something we've noticed he's done before.
