Report: Carlos Ortiz indicted by grand jury on accessory to murder

By Ryan Wilson |

Carlos Ortiz, one of the key witnesses in the Aaron Hernandez murder case, has been indicted by a grand jury on a single count of accessory to murder -- after the fact in the shooting death of Odin Lloyd, the Boston Globe reported Friday.

This comes a day after Ortiz, who also faces a weapons charge, changed his account of what happened in the moments leading up to Lloyd's death. Ortiz originally told authorities that he, Hernandez and another Hernandez associate, Ernest Wallace, had driven Lloyd to a secluded industrial park in the early hours of June 17. Hernandez, Wallace and Lloyd exited the car while Ortiz stayed behind, and Lloyd was shot multiple times.

Now Ortiz "does not think" Wallace, who is being charged as an accessory after the fact, got out of the car with Hernandez and Lloyd.

District Attorney C. Samuel Sutter doesn't think Ortiz's altered story weakens the prosecution's case against Hernandez, who is currently in jail awaiting trial on first-degree murder charges.
