Report: Titans fielding offers for Kenny Britt trade

By Will Brinson | NFL Writer

The Titans are reportedly open to dealing Kenny Britt. (USATSI)

Through three games, Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt's been virtually non-existent, catching five passes for 43 yards on the season. Combine that with Britt's contract status (in his last year), his legal issues (numerous) and his recent unhappiness with the Titans and it's not hard to see him moving on after this season.

It could be sooner: Adam Schefter of ESPN reports the Titans are "fielding offers" for Britt and "are open to trading for him."

However, the Titans say they are not "actively shopping" the former first-round pick.

Britt's recent tweet about Tennessee "pull that Jared Cook card" -- the Titans didn't negotiate any sort of new deal with Cook and let him waltz to free agency after last year -- shows just how serious Tennessee is about moving forward.

So what teams might be interested in Britt? The Patriots are a squad consistently mentioned. They have a need a wide receiver and they're willing to take a gamble on talented-but-troubled players. But Danny Amendola will return at some point and the development of Kenbrell Thompkins and Aaron Dobson is important. Bringing in Britt would stunt that. The Ravens also need wide receiver help.

But would smart teams give up anything that would make it worth Tennessee's trouble? They're utilizing Kendall Wright and Justin Hunter now but might need Britt's talents later. Additionally, whatever a smart team would offer for a simple rental of Britt might not be better than the compensatory pick that Tennessee could ultimately receive if he departs as a free agent.
