Jaguars trade LT Eugene Monroe to Ravens for draft picks

By John Breech | CBSSports.com

Blaine Gabbert's probably not going to like this news.

Jacksonville has traded starting left tackle Eugene Monroe to the Baltimore Ravens for a fourth-round pick and a fifth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora has reported. Monroe had been the Jaguars starting left tackle since 2009 when he was selected eighth overall in the NFL Draft.

Over the past five seasons, Monroe has started in 62 of the 65 games he's played in for the Jaguars. Jacksonville will most likely move right tackle Luke Joeckel over to left tackle to replace Monroe. Joeckel was the second overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

On Baltimore's end, the trade could be bad news for left tackle Bryant McKinnie. McKinnie was benched last season and didn't start any games for the Ravens in 2012, but an impressive postseason during the Ravens run to the Super Bowl title earned him the right to start in 2013.

The Ravens liked McKinnie's postseason performance so much that they re-signed him to a two-year, $7 million deal in May.

However, McKinnie has struggled this year and it probably hasn't helped that he was directly involved with the Ravens Sept. 23 party bus incident.

Baltimore's offensive line has struggled as a whole this season. The Ravens rank 28th in the NFL in rushing and have surrendered 10 sacks. Monroe will most likely take McKinnie's spot on the left side of the line.

Monroe's contract is set to expire at the end of this season and La Canfora is reporting that the Ravens have not given Monroe a new deal, but the two parties could eventually make one down the road.

Monroe is expected to fly to Baltimore on Wednesday to take a physical and finalize the deal.
