Texans coach Gary Kubiak: Matt Schaub still the starting quarterback

By John Breech | CBSSports.com

It's been a rough few weeks for Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub. Over the past four games, Schaub has thrown a total of eight interceptions and the Texans have gone 1-3 in that span. Schaub's eight picks include four that were returned for touchdowns, giving him the NFL-record for most consecutive games with a pick-six.

Despite Schaub's struggles, coach Gary Kubiak isn't ready to bench his starting quarterback. After the Texans 34-3 loss to San Franciso on Sunday -- a game where Schaub threw three interceptions -- Kubiak said he's sticking with the guy who led the Texans to a 12-4 record in 2012.

"Yes he is," Kubiak said when asked if Schaub was still the Texans starting quarterback.

Kubiak then went on to explain why he pulled Schaub in the fourth quarter of Sunday night's loss and put in T.J. Yates.

"It was time for [Yates] to get some reps," Kubiak said, via the Houston Chronicle. "Obviously, Matt took some hits and made some mistakes. And I just told him, 'We'll put T.J. in the game.' And we're going to go from there and talk about it after the game (and) throughout the course of the week and see where we're at. But I thought it was the best thing to do at the time."

After his three-interception game against the 49ers, Schaub didn't try to hide the fact that he's struggling.

"Obviously, it's tough right now," Schaub said. "After what we've been through tonight, going back to last weekend and even the week before. I am very confident in my ability and everyone in this locker room."

The problem for Schaub is that everyone in the locker room might not be confident in his ability. If the Texans don't start winning soon -- two of their next three games are at Kansas City (5-0) and at home against Indianapolis (4-1) -- Schaub might lose the locker room, if he hasn't already.

Schaub's already losing some Texans fans, like rapper Slim Thug, who's driving the 'bring Johnny Manziel to Houston' bandwagon.
