Panthers wideout Steve Smith didn't have a very good game against the Cardinals on Sunday. He admitted as much after the game, but also put some of the blame on referee Dan Ferrell.
Smith called Ferrell "the sorriest referee" he's ever met and even referred to him as "garbage."
"I really think that referee probably was the sorriest referee that I have ever met," Smith said via Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer. "When I dove for the first down (and) he was standing right there, he didn't even acknowledge -- he received a check that day and I hope he feels good.
"He was terrible. He was garbage."
These comments are 100 percent guaranteed to get 89 fined by Commissioner Goodell and Smith 100 percent doesn't care.
"To be honest, I make enough money where if Roger wants to fine me he can," Smith said.
Smith also said the Cardinals -- and primarily cornerback Patrick Peterson -- were "molesting" him in coverage and the lack of calls from Ferrell were primarily what resulted in his struggles.
Well, that and him getting "leg-humped."
"I got a (pass interference) penalty, which is very interesting. I got leg-humped and hugged a few times. Being a pretty good flag football player, I think I got my flag pulled on my jersey a few times," Smith said. "I would say pretty much, I take that one on the chin and just say it was me. I've got to play better."
At least Smith knows that it wasn't entirely on the refs. That probably won't do much for his wallet though.
