Giants RB David Wilson worried neck injury might end season

Though the Giants took another loss Thursday to drop their record to 0-6, one positive to emerge from the game was the resurgence of running Brandon Jacobs, who rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns about a month after the team signed him as a free agent off the street.

And it sounds like the Giants might need him going forward.

With David Wilson out with a neck injury suffered last week, the second-year running back gave reporters some chilling news Friday, saying he's afraid he might miss the rest of the season.

Wilson said he'll seek a second opinion Monday, but he said doctors are telling him he might have spinal stenosis.

According to the Mayo Clinic, “Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the open spaces within your spine, which can put pressure on your spinal cord and the nerves that travel through the spine. Spinal stenosis occurs most often in the neck and lower back.”

Wilson said doctors have told him one of his vertebrae is situated too closely to his spinal cord. But the running back also said it was possible he could return in time for the team's Week 7 matchup against the Vikings.

As far as a possible season-ending injury, coach Tom Coughlin told reporters, “That's not the way it was presented to me.”

For now, Coughlin gave a vague outline of Wilson returning in three to four weeks, and for his part, Wilson said he feels no discomfort in his neck.
