Despite a terrible personal tragedy during the week, Adrian Peterson will be at the office on Sunday. The Vikings running back is active for Sunday's game against the Panthers, suiting up just days after his two-year-old son died.

He said, in a text to Fox Sports, that he believes "God wants good to come from" him persevering through tragedy to play.

"My brother passed the night before the combine and I decided to go through with it. The same reason why I will play this week. You may ask why? God wants good to come from it," Peterson said. "We mourn and grieve but heaven had the baddest welcoming party for my son. That knowledge gives me peace. I'm still hurt and feel the pain of life, but I'm able to function because of the peace and joy of knowing my loved ones are in a much better place."

There's no telling how it'll affect Peterson -- Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said while walking into the stadium that he spoke with Peterson several times leading up to the game but that he's as unsure as anyone how Peterson will play.

"It's definitely had an impact for sure when you experience what he experienced," Frazier said. "This is not something you can really prepare for. He's a very strong-minded person. He has tremendous support from his teammates and our entire organization. How will it affect how he plays today? Who knows. But I know he's going to go out and give it his best effort."

Oftentimes athletes use work as a cathartic way to move through tragedy and will often dedicate their performance to those that they lost. It's very possible Peterson is doing just that on Sunday.
