Vikings running back Adrian Peterson played Sunday, two days after his two-year-old son died following injuries he suffered after allegedly being abused.

Before the game, Peterson said that he believed "God wants good to come from" playing through the tragedy. The Vikings' best player was held to 10 rushes for 62 yards and no touchdowns.

Afterward, the Vikings star running back spoke about the loss of his son.

"It was tough," he said, via the Pioneer Press' Sean Jensen. "It was a crazy situation … It hurts. You can't describe it."

Peterson also reiterated his decision to suit up.

"I was set on it, man," Peterson said. "I want people to understand my mindset. Any bad I try to take good from it. That's the way I approach life. I never thought about not playing. It was all about going out there and praying that I have the strength to get through. That was my focus."

Before the game, according to Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph, Peterson told his teammates, "I'm going to give it my all, and I expect you all to do the same."

By the time it was over, the Vikings fell to 1-4 and and more than one player talked about the embarrassment that comes with getting thoroughly outplayed at home by the Panthers.

In related news, it's only a matter of time (duh) until recently signed quarterback Josh Freeman is promoted to starter.
