In a season full of hard times and embarrassments for Tampa Bay, the Buccaneers have another obstacle overcome, because, according to Fox Sports, running back Doug Martin has a torn labrum in his left shoulder and is done for the season.
It's devastating news because there was talk after the Buccaneers loss to the Falcons on Sunday that Martin might have the chance to play this Thursday. Martin told reporters, via the Tampa Bay Times, that the shoulder was not dislocated and that preliminary X-rays looked good.
"It feels all right right now," Martin said. "I'm pretty sure [Monday] it'll feel better. Maybe not. I hope for the best."
According to the Tampa Bay Times, the team won't place Martin on IR immediately, because they're hopeful he can return sometime this season. Until then, it appears that backup Brian Leonard, 2013 six-round pick Mike James and Jeff Demps could get more opportunities to run the ball in Martin's absence.
