Troy Polamalu hurdles line in attempt to block extra point

By Ryan Wilson |

Steelers safety Troy Polamalu's athleticism knows no bounds. He's proven it on various occasions in countless ways during his 11-year NFL career, the latest coming Sunday against the Ravens.

With 1:58 to go and Pittsburgh leading 16-15, Baltimore lined up to attempt the game-tying extra point.

Then this happened:

It's one of the most absurd things you'll see, but if Polamalu had timed it right (something he has a knack for) and blocked the kick, the Steelers would have gotten the ball back with the lead. Instead, the Ravens decided to have the five-yard penalty assessed on the kickoff, which Emmanuel Sanders appeared to take to he house. The officials would rule him out at the Steelers' 37, but that just delayed the inevitable game-deciding Shaun Suisham field goal as time expired.

One thing worth noting: CBS color analyst Dan Fouts said the Ravens should have accepted the Polamalu penalty on the extra point, moved the ball to the one-yard line, and then gone for two. These calls are easy to make from the comfy confines of the press booth, and probably something Ravens coach John Harbaugh never considered.

Either way, the Ravens head into their bye at 3-4 and the Steelers, winners of two straight, are 2-4.
