Report: Texans waive 3 rookies for rules violations

By Ryan Wilson | CBSSports.com

A bad season just gets worse for the Texans. A day after the team lost not only its fifth straight game to fall to 2-5, but also linebacker Brian Cushing to a season ending injury, three players have reportedly been waived for violating team rules.

ESPN reports the players were dismissed for marijuana use. Chad Cannon, the agent for Willie Jefferson, denied that allegation.

"We're discussing the possibility of filing a grievance," Cannon said. "I need to be in touch with them and really figure if that's the best route to take."

All three players were listed among the inactives for Sunday's game, although the Texans could have used Wood, a rookie undrafted free agent from Notre Dame, after injuries to running backs Arian Foster and Ben Tate.

Montgomery, a 2013 third-round pick out of LSU arrived in Houston with gobs of potential but also some off-field concerns. And Jefferson, an undrafted rookie free agent out of Stephen F. Austin, impressed coaches during the offseason, but clearly that has changed.

On the bright side, Texans fans can't blame this on Matt Schaub.
