Doug Martin out for Panthers game; Greg Schiano says wins will come

With each new day comes more bad news for the Buccaneers. On Wednesday, the team announced that running back Doug Martin wouldn't play in Thursday night's game against the Panthers, which means the rushing attack will go through Mike James, Brian Leonard and possibly just-signed Bobby Rainey.

Greg Schiano, who is 0-6 this season and 1-11 dating back to 2012, could be the first coach to get fired. In the meantime, he insists that wins are on the way.

“We'll win our share, don't worry,” the coach said during an appearance on NFL Network (via PFT).

No word on when the wins are coming, a tidbit that might be of interests to the Glazers, who own the team.

“We just need to go out there and play Buccaneer football,” Schiano continued. “Take care of the ball, play penalty-free football. When we do that we're a good football team. We'll win plenty of games. Hopefully that starts Thursday night.”

Hey, fake it till you make it, Greg.

Last week, Schiano had a similarly upbeat message for Bucs fans: “If they can hang in there, we're going to be good. If they can't, we're still going to be good, and they're welcome back. I'm not being smart. I mean that. I think our fans are great. When I came out to start the game, warmups, our fans were awesome. The end of the game, I'm disappointed just like they are.”

And with Martin out, not to mention the bungled Josh Freeman situation and the ongoing MRSA issues, it's reasonable to think that both coach and fans will again be disappointed Thursday night.
