Brandon Marshall: 'I predict Jay Cutler will be back in two weeks'

We told you earlier this week that the diagnosis for Jay Cutler's groin injury would likely keep him off the field for about four weeks. Either Bears receiver Brandon Marshall doesn't read the Eye on Football blog, or he's a soothsayer, because his prediction is totally different -- and, perhaps predictably, much more optimistic.

“I predict Jay Cutler will be back in two weeks," Marshall told MSNBC. "They say four to six, but we got the right people around Jay right now so we'll get it done.”

You have to wonder if that's more wishing and hoping than actual reality.

Particularly because Cutler helped lead the Bears to a 7-3 record in 2011 where Chicago was playing well on a playoff track. But Cutler suffered a thumb injury during a victory against the Chargers that knocked him out the rest of the season.

Then, this happened.

13December 4L7-5 Kansas City Chiefs310
14December 11L7-6@Denver Broncos1013

Obviously, the Bears, led by quarterbacks Caleb Hanie and Josh McCown, missed the playoffs that season, and much of the reason for that was because Hanie was so subpar (McCown took over for Hanie and was slightly better).

Now, McCown takes over for Cutler again, and though he was effective last Sunday, it'd be surprising if he could maintain that level of competence the entire time is Cutler is out with his injury.

So, maybe Marshall is praying that his prediction will come true.

Until then, you can listen to Marshall talk about mental health issues and Cutler on MSNBC if you click the video below.
