Tom Brady has popped up on the Patriots' injury report this week (right shoulder, probable) for the first time since late last season. It had become such a regular occurrence in recent years that no one really paid it much attention. But people took notice when Brady showed up on the Patriots' MyFace page (as Bill Belichick might call it) with two fingers on his throwing hand taped together.
Brady, appearing at a Make-a-Wish event Saturday, can be seen in the photo above with the middle and ring fingers on his right hand taped together. Seems innocouous enough but, well, this is Tom Brady. Everything is news.
Speculation about a lingering injury wasn't helped by Brady's performance against the Jets last week -- a 47.8 percent completion percentage for 228 yards, with no touchdowns and a pick-six. Also not helping: ESPNBoston.com said Brady "appeared to be dealing with discomfort in his hand" during the game.
But NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Sunday morning that Brady's finger wouldn't be an issue when the Patriots face the Dolphins in Week 8.
Make of this what you will, but if Brady struggles -- something that has been a recurring theme this season -- there will be more questions about how healthy he really is.
