2013 NFL Midseason Awards: Peyton Manning an MVP lock

By Will Brinson | NFL Writer

The halfway point of the NFL season is upon us. And that means it's time to hand out awards. Below are my midseason picks as well as a link to all the excellent content we're cranking out in CBSSports.com Midseason Midtacular*.

MVP -- Peyton Manning -- Manning has nearly 3,000 passing yards and 29 touchdowns through eight games. He's averaging 364.9 freaking passing yards per games. Manning's playing the best he's played in an unbelievable career eight games in. It's mindblowing.

DPOY -- Robert Mathis, OLB, Colts -- A career year for Mathis, who leads the league in sacks despite not having a ton of help on the defensive end. A big reason why the Colts are 5-2.

COY -- Andy Reid -- Another easy call. The Chiefs have four times as many wins right now as they had all of last season. Inconceivable!

OROY -- Giovani Bernard -- The Bengals rookie narrowly beat out Eddie Lacy because he's an explosive, multi-dimensional option for Andy Dalton.

DROY - Sheldon Richardson - Paired up next to Muhammad Wilkerson, the Jes first-round pick has been a total nightmare for opposing offensive lines with 2.5 sacks, a pass deflection and a forced fumble through seven games.

Most Improved -- Philip Rivers -- Left for dead in San Diego, Rivers has revived the Chargers under the tutelage (and freedom) of Mike McCoy and Ken Whisenhunt.

Biggest Surprise -- Terrelle Pryor -- Who would've thought the Raiders would win three games by midseason? Pryor might not be a franchise quarterback in the truest sense but he's giving Raiders hope.

Biggest Disappointment -- C.J. Spiller -- Spiller's production isn't the worst in the NFL but considering the expectations for him coming into the year, he's been a massive letdown for the Bills.
