Sometime after leaving the team on Oct. 28, Dolphins offensive lineman Jonathan Martin checked himself into a South Florida hospital so he could be treated for emotional distress, according to ESPN.com.

The Dolphins made arrangements for Martin's parents to fly to South Florida to visit with their hospitalized son. Dolphins coach Joe Philbin also visited with Martin, according to the report.

In a press conference on Nov. 4, Philbin confirmed that he had visited with Martin, but he didn't specify when or where that meeting took place.

"Jonathan Martin left our facility prior to that practice [on Oct. 28] after an incident occurred in our team dining room. Later that evening, he contacted a member of our organization," Philbin said. "Soon thereafter I contacted Jonathan personally, requested a meeting with him, at which he readily accepted. I met with him later that evening. We had a good discussion."

After the initial meeting, Philbin said he stayed in contact with both Martin and Martin's family. "Throughout the course of the week, I was in contact on multiple occasions with him and members of his family," Philbin said. "I spoke to him the day after the [Bengals] game, and I spoke to members of his family over the course of the weekend."

Although it's not clear when Martin left the South Florida hospital, his stay was brief, according to the ESPN report. Martin then flew back to California where he is right now. The 24-year-old lineman is currently in Los Angeles receiving counseling and preparing a document as part of the NFL's investigation into his multiple episodes with Incognito.
