Chris Johnson: 'Hard to put my trust' in a guy like Jonathan Martin

By Will Brinson | NFL Writer

Everyone's got an opinion on the Jonathan Martin-Richie Incognito situation in Miami. Even non-Dolphins players typically find a side to choose and Titans running back Chris Johnson isn't choosing Martin's.

Speaking with Jim Rome on CBS Sports Network's ROME Friday, Johnson basically said he wouldn't want to be on the same team with Martin. Specifically he said it would be "hard to put my trust in a guy" who wasn't able to "hold his own" in the locker room.

"The type of team we have over there, we have people who want to step up and be a man at the end of the day and to be able to hold your own," Johnson said. "It would be kind of hard to put my trust in a guy to go out there every Sunday and hold his own. At the end of the day he wasn't a rookie any more, he was a second-year guy. It wasn't like a big offensive lineman picking on a kicker or a receiver or something. Both of those guys are really big guys. At the end of the day you have to step up and be a man and handle your own."

So maybe Johnson doesn't think Martin handled all this situation the right way?

"I don't think he did," Johnson said.

That's a pretty tough stance to take. But it's one that a lot of Miami players might be sticking with as well. Johnson also had a tough take on bullying in general. He doesn't believe you can "tell" on a bully and actually you achieve something.

In order to stop bullying -- which he hasn't personally seen in an NFL locker room -- you've got to "step up and do some things for yourself."

"I wouldn't say I've seen anybody bullying. A lot of times when it comes to bullying it's a bigger guy picking on a smaller guy who can't take up for himself," Johnson said. "I'm totally against bullying, but it comes to a point where when a guy been's bullied so much he'll eventually step up and do something about it. That's not going to tell your parents or tell the principle or anything like that because you're going to get bullied at the end of the day. You being a grown man you gotta step up and do some things for yourself.

"The older you get you ain't be able to tell your parents or you ain't gonna be able to tell anybody at the end of the day. We're talking about two grown men."
