Mark Sanchez: 'I'm not going anywhere,' 'plan on being' with Jets

Did you forget about Mark Sanchez? Of course you did. It's easier to remember him now given Geno Smith's struggles, though, and it's much easier for Sanchez to say he plans on sticking around with the Jets.

That notion is probably silly either way, but Sanchez is still throwing it out there.

"I don't want to go anywhere else," Sanchez said. "I plan on being here. That's all I'm thinking about, is coming back next year, leading this team and playing well. We'll see what happens."

The former Jets starter is eight weeks removed from surgery on the torn labrum that he suffered in the team's third preseason game this year

And man, Rex Ryan's crazy postgame presser feels a lot longer than three months ago. To recap:

Anyway, Sanchez eventually underwent surgery and he's now two months removed from that operation. He says "things are going really well" and he's had no "hiccups."

Also, he'll "be back better than ever."

"It's been awesome," Sanchez said of his rehab. "Today is eight weeks out of surgery. Things are going really well. I'm progressing exactly the way they wanted. Haven't had any hiccups and I'll be back better than ever."

The idea of Sanchez coming back to the Jets in 2014 is highly unlikely. He's got a big contract and the Jets could use some relief.

Sanchez, who told the Star-Ledger he hasn't discussed his contract with management, is a safe bet to become a free agent. He'll get picked up as a backup somewhere. Whether or not he gets a chance to start remains to be seen.
