Broncos' Derek Wolfe ruled out vs. Chiefs after seizure-like symptoms

Broncos defensive end Derek Wolfe has been downgraded to out for Sunday's matchup with the Chiefs after falling ill Friday on the team's ride to the airport.

“Derek Wolfe is alert and recovering in a Denver hospital after experiencing seizure-like symptoms on Friday," the team said in a statement. "He underwent extensive testing and is now being treated accordingly by doctors, who will continue to monitor his condition.”

The Broncos will also be without defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson for the rest of the season (dislocated hip), which means that two of Denver's best run stuffers won't play this Sunday. This is good news for the Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles, who managed just 72 rushing yards when the teams met two weeks ago.

Broncos rookie Sylvester Williams will step in for Vickerson but the question is whether the 2013 first-rounder is ready to play.

"I think so," interim coach Jack Del Rio said via the Denver Post. "We'll see. The great thing about sports is you prepare yourself and then at some point you get your opportunity and then it's what you do with it. He certainly is going to get plenty of opportunity.

"You get an idea based on how they work, how they prepare, how they practice, how they take care of themselves, how they conduct themselves in meetings. But until he goes from playing 20 snaps to 40 or 50 snaps you don't know how he'll respond to the additional workload. It might be real good to him."
