The Buffalo Bills added tight end Tony Moeaki and released running back Tashard Choice on Wednesday. The decision to drop Choice came as a surprise to Fred Jackson, the team's second-leading rusher. Choice had been in Buffalo since 2011.

"I was completely surprised," Jackson said, via "He's a guy that has been contributing not only on special teams, but he played a lot in the games, too. It was shocking, but he's a tremendous player, so I think he'll bounce somewhere and get right back on his feet."

After Choice was cut on Wednesday morning, Jackson and fellow running back C.J. Spiller decided to wear Choice's No. 20 at practice on Wednesday.

"We definitely weren't protesting. We were just showing him that we were thinking about him today," Jackson said. "He's a guy that, like I said, has been our brother in that room for three years."

Choice had been the Bills third-leading rusher this year with 126 on 35 carries. The 2008 fourth-round pick of the Cowboys also caught four passes for 10 yards this season.

The Bills filled Choice's roster spot by signing Moeaki. Moeaki was released off of injured reserve by the Chiefs in October. The fourth-year tight end fractured his shoulder in the preseason and has struggled with injuries since 2011.

Moeaki has produced when he's healthy though. The 26-year-old caught 47 passes for 556 yards in 2010 and also added 33 catches for 453 yards in 2012. Moeaki will be reunited with former college teammate and fellow tight end Scott Chandler. Moeaki and Chandler were teammates for two seasons (2005-06) at Iowa.
