It sounds like the Bears will get at least another week of starting Josh McCown at quarterback. That's because Chicago coach Marc Trestman said Thursday that Jay Cutler, battling an ankle injury, won't be ready for this Monday's game vs. the Cowboys.

The good news for the Bears? Cutler practiced on a limited basis Thursday, and Trestman said, "It looks like he's progressing ... I was encouraged today by the work that [Cutler] got in."

A couple weeks ago, Cutler said he was worried about ligament damage, but Trestman later said that it was just a sprain.

"I'm pretty frustrated. It's hard being out like this," Cutler said last month. "I'm glad the guys are winning. I'm glad Josh is playing at a high level. That makes it easier. But I get paid to play football. Whenever I can't play and help the guys, it's difficult."

Trestman also said Thursday that linebacker Lance Briggs wouldn't play Monday either.
