Jeff Triplette explains decision to award Bengals controversial TD

Referee Jeff Triplette seems to always find himself in a predicament. He was the guy who accidentally launched a penalty flag into the eye of Browns tackle Orlando Brown back in 1999. More recently, at least one member of Triplette's crew didn't know what down it was and it possibly cost the Redskins last Sunday night.

And this Sunday, Twitter exploded when Triplette overturned what appeared to be BenJarvus Green-Ellis coming up short of the goal line after he was tripped up by a Colts' defender. That was a fourth-down play

Instead, Triplette announced that there was conclusive video evidence to reverse the call and he award Green-Ellis the touchdown.

After the game, Triplette was asked about the possibility that the Colts' nose tackle made the tackle.

"I don't know about that," he said. ... "There was nobody that touched him at the goal line."

Yep, we all agree that Green-Ellis was untouched at the goal line but the question was what about in the Bengals' backfield?

In a game where "Any Given Sunday" holds, well, any given Sunday, one constant remains: Triplette is one of the league's worst officials.
