Chicago Bears defensive tackle Henry Melton was arrested and charged with assault and public intoxication in Grapevine, Texas early Sunday morning. Melton was later bonded out of jail just after 9 a.m. CT.
"We are aware of the reports regarding Henry Melton," the team said in a statement. "We are currently gathering information to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the arrest."
Melton was arrested after 'became combative' with a staff member at a bar when he was asked to leave. Melton allegedely punched an employee at the bar.
The 27-year-old defensive tackle continues to recover from ACL surgery. Melton was lost for the season in Week 3 when he tore his ACL against the Steelers. The defensive tackle went to high school in Grapevine and attended college at the University of Texas.
Melton entered the 2013 season as the Bears franchise player. Melton was hit with the franchise-tag in July after he was unable to work out a long-term deal with the Bears.
