Uncomfortable Tony Romo still day-to-day for Cowboys

There wasn't much news to emerge from Cowboys camp on Christmas day, but if you're an optimistic sort, the news about Tony Romo wasn't terrible.

Coach Jason Garrett told reporters that Romo, suffering from a back injury and who had an epidural sometime after Week 16, doesn't feel overly comfortable. But Garrett later followed it up and said Romo was feeling a little better.

Thus, it's still not clear who will start Sunday's game vs. the Eagles, though it's a pretty good bet that backup Kyle Orton will get that call. As for the team's newest member, 41-year-old Jon Kitna, Garrett revealed an interesting tidbit of information.

As in, Kitna was the one to call the Cowboys, not the other way around.

"Are you serious?" Garrett asked Kitna when the latter offered the former his services.

"Absolutely," Kitna said.

And that's how Kitna got signed to the active roster (and will run the scout team), despite the fact he hasn't thrown an NFL pass in 27 months.

As for Romo's short-term health? He's day-to-day.

"He's still working his way through this thing," Garrett said.
