Bill O'Brien's a hot name in the NFL coaching rumor mill; CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reported weeks ago that the Vikings and Texans would be interested in the Penn State coach. Reports that Houston and O'Brien are "working on a deal" circulated Saturday night, though La Canfora reports that the search is still "ongoing."

So what will Penn State do if O'Brien leaves? Well, they could reportedly chase after a current NFL coach: Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports the Nittany Lions are very interested in the Buccaneers' Greg Schiano.

That would mean the interest is (reportedly) mutual -- earlier this week reported that the Titans Mike Munchak and Schiano were both interested in the Penn State gig if it opens up.

Rapoport reported Sunday morning that Penn State is "ready to make a strong push" for Schiano and that Penn State athletic director Dave Joyner is "mulling flying down to Tampa" in order to try and convince Schiano "in person" to come to Penn State.

Schiano already denied any interest in taking over the Nittany Lions.

"There's zero truth to that," Schiano said earlier this week. "Let me make it clear, the only job I want is the one I have right now."

The problem for Schiano -- and what makes Penn State's desperation so ... odd -- is that it's not guaranteed he'll have his job by this time next week.
