Shortly after Mike Shanahan was fired by the Redskins Monday, ESPN 980's Chris Russell said that "There is mucho evidence to point to Bill Cowher being the leader in the clubhouse" to be the next Redskins coach. Russell added that Cowher had had already met with owner Dan Snyder and possibly general manager Bruce Allen.

But Russell is in the minority when it comes to media members who believe Cowher is coming to DC.

Cowher's colleague on CBS' The NFL Today, Shannon Sharpe wasn't nearly as optimistic. In fact, he put the percentages at, well, zero.

Another of Cowher's CBS colleagues, Jason La Canfora, tweeted this:

And James Brown, a longtime Redskins follower and yet another Cowher colleague, offered this during a Monday afternoon interview with WTOP:

“First of all, he would be an excellent candidate for the job,” Brown said, via the Washington Post. “No, I do not think Bill Cowher has met with Mr. Snyder at all, in person. He may have had his people, his agents, listen to what it is.

"And Bill Cowher has never said he's never going to return to the sidelines, but he's enjoying his life," Brown continued. "However, he said if he were to go back to the sidelines, it would have to be with great ownership in place, have to have an absolutely strong quarterback upon which and around whom to build, and clearly he would have to be paid handsomely. So you determine how many of those elements have been met.”

Cowher, who last coached in NFL in 2006 and was 190-90-1, including a Super Bowl title, in 15 seasons with the Steelers, said as recently as October that he's happy serving as a studio analyst for CBS. And it doesn't sound like a head-coaching vacancy in Washington will change his mind.
