Despite back-to-back 4-12 seasons and speculation that he could be fired, Dennis Allen will return as the Raiders coach in 2014. Team owner Mark Davis confirmed as much Tuesday night.

"We met this evening at the Raider facility, and the meeting went really well," Davis told ESPN.com in a phone interview. "We talked about a lot of things, from personnel issues to the coaches to a review of the past season to the draft and our needs for next season.

"We're ready to rock and roll."

Davis said the meeting, which took place eight days after a handful of coaches met their fates on Black Monday, was merely "protocol," and said he, Allen and general manager Reggie McKenzie would meet Wednesday to discuss the franchise's future.

With Allen's job secure, attention again turns to fixing a Raiders team that hasn't had a winning season since 2002. First up: Deciding on a quarterback. Oakland holds the fifth-overall pick in May's NFL Draft and NFLDraftScout.com's Rob Rang has the organization taking ... Johnny Manziel.

If either Terrelle Pryor, Matt McGloin or a yet-to-be-named free agent is thought to be the answer next season, the Raiders could look to add playmakers at the skill position. NFLDraftScout.com's Dane Brugler has them drafting Clemson wideout Sammy Watkins in the first round.

Whatever happens in the coming weeks and months, this is a very important offseason for the 41-year-old Allen. If the Raiders don't improve in 2014 it's safe to assume that he won't see the final year of his four-year deal.
