NEW YORK -- After a poor 2012 caused many people to write Philip Rivers and the Chargers off, Rivers stormed back with a monster 2013 performance for San Diego. He did so well that he won the 2013 NFL Comeback Player of the Year.
Rivers completed a bananas 69.5 percent of his passes during the year, leading the NFL.
The Chargers -- against all odds -- managed to make the postseason, sneaking in as the final AFC wild card during a crazy Week 17 that featured an overtime win against the Chiefs, who were srarting their backups.
In 2011 and 2012, Rivers combined to throw for 35 interceptions. In 2013 h threw 32 touchdowns and just 11 interceptions.
Though he never suffered an injury, Rivers did have a terrible 2012 season and there was some question as to whether or not he could ultimately return to the form he flashed earlier in his career.
He did that and more in 2013, making him a viable candidate for the award and a worthy winner.
