Ex-Titans LB: RB Chris Johnson is a 'me' person, never takes blame

Titans running back Chris Johnson is scheduled to make $8 million in 2014. The problem is, Tennessee doesn't really want to pay him that much. The Titans have been trying to negotiate Johnson down to a lower number, but things are currently at a 'standstill.'

Is Johnson at fault here for not wanting to take a pay cut? Are the Titans at fault for asking him to take one?

Former Tennessee linebacker Keith Bulluck, who was teammates with Johnson for two seasons, seems to side with the team.

In an interview on Thursday, Bulluck called Johnson a 'me' person while bringing up the fact that Johnson hasn't taken the time to meet new Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt. Whisenhunt was hired on Jan. 13, which means he's been on the job for over seven weeks and there still hasn't been a meeting between him and Johnson.

"If I wanted to be there and it was important to me, I would make it my duty [to meet the new coach] -- especially considering I have a house there -- I would make it my business to get in and say, 'Look, what's going on, blah, blah, blah,'" Bulluck told WGFX-FM in Tennessee, via ESPN.com. "Even if I'm not going to be on the team, just to meet him. It's just professionalism. But, I will say, different strokes for different folks. Some people are too cool for school, some people don't get it, they don't get how things work. You know, CJ's been there a while. You guys have been covering him, you know what type of person he is."

Just in case you don't know what type of person Johnson is, Bulluck went ahead and described him.

"He's a friend of mine but when it comes to athlete, he's a 'me' person," Bulluck said. "He's a 'me' person when it comes to the athlete. For the years that he's been there, it's never been his fault why he didn't have a good running game or why he didn't have a good game. It was always somebody else's fault. I'm not surprised that CJ hasn't come in to even meet coach or see what's going on in general. I'm not surprised by that."

As far as the Johnson situation is concerned, the Titans have been preaching patience for most of the offseason, but you can only be patient for so long. As the Titans head into free agency and the draft, they need to figure out what their plan is at running back and if that plan involves Johnson. Right now, it's looking more and more like it won't.
