Set to enter the final year of a deal that would pay him $4.5 million -- and coming off a season in which a leg injury limited to only five games -- tight end Owen Daniels has been released by the Texans, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Daniels would have counted $6.25 million against the salary cap, but now that his dead money figure will be $1.75 million, the Texans have saved $4.5 million overall.

While Daniels missed much of the season in 2013, he had one of the better years of his career in 2012, recording 62 catches, 716 yards and six touchdowns.

But Daniels is 31, and the Chronicle opines that in Daniels' absence, the Texans will make sure they secure potential free agent Garrett Graham.

"Obviously it's going to be different but from my perspective, film doesn't lie," Daniels told ESPN.com last December. "I've been doing this a long time. Had gotten off the a good start this year. I think I'm one of the leaders and one of the staples of this team. If they choose to keep me my last year of my contract, which I hope they do, that's great. I'd like to play here and only wear this uniform."

But now that he's not, the Ravens, with Dennis Pitta, are one potential landing spot.
