Cowboys release WR Miles Austin

In a move that has been expected, the Cowboys released veteran wide receiver Miles Austin Wednesday and designated him a post-June 1 cut.

A former undrafted free agent out of Monmouth College, Austin parlayed a huge 2009 season (81 catches, 1,320 yards, 11 touchdowns) into an even bigger payday that offseason: six years, $54 million. But in 2013, injuries limited the 30-year-old to just 11 games, 24 receptions and no TDs and now he's become expendable.

The Cowboys will head into offseason workouts with wideouts Dez Bryant and second-year player Terrance Williams atop the depth chart.

The team also released veteran outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware earlier Tuesday.
