From 2010-12, Seahawks defensive end Chris Clemons tallied between 11 and 11.5 sacks each season.

But after an influx of defensive line talent last year, including Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril, and injuries with which he had to fight through, Clemons wasn't nearly as effective in 2013, and on Wednesday, it was reported by NFL.com that the Seahawks had released him.

The move isn't altogether surprising, especially since the team re-signed Bennett to a four-year deal worth $32 million and since Clemons will turn 33 in October.

The move saves the Seahawks about $7.5 million on the salary cap.

The Florida Times Union had opined recently that the Jaguars could show interest in Clemons if Seattle cut him -- that Seahawks-to-Jacksonville pipeline has been running strong -- but it's unclear if that's still an option with the Jaguars recently signing former Seahawks defensive end Red Bryant.
