Buccaneers release OT Donald Penn

The Buccaneers jumped back out into the free agent market on Thursday morning and signed tackle Anthony Collins from the Bengals. He'll start at left tackle from the start, as the Buccaneers released tackle Donald Penn later on Thursday.

Penn, who will turn 31 in April, signed with the Bucs as an undrafted free agent in 2007, started 12 games his first year and hasn't missed a start since.

But Penn hasn't always been consistent and he was due a big salary ($6.75 million with an $8.33 million cap hit) in 2014.

Collins now steps in as the starting left tackle from Day 1 to protect Josh McCown (or if he goes down, Mike Glennon; Lovie Smith already named McCown the starter).

Penn's a good bet to land somewhere quickly. One spot that comes to mind is the Raiders. They, ahem, have an opening at left tackle after the Rodger Saffold deal fell through when the former Rams tackle failed his physical and negated a $42.5 million deal.
