The Ravens signed Daryl Smith last June, almost as an afterthought. The veteran linebacker went on to have a solid 2013 season, and with the loss of Ray Lewis, was one of Baltimore's most important players. So it's no surprised that the two sides agreed to terms on a four-year, $16.1 million deal, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The deals signed by D'Qwell Jackson (four years, $22 million with Indy) and Karlos Dansby (four years, $24 million with Cleveland) no doubt factored into Smith taking his time, which would explain the "disconnect on asking price" in the first few days of free agency.

A 2004-second-round pick out of Georgia Tech, Smith started 16 games last season and had five sacks, 18 passes defended and three interceptions -- all career highs. He spent his first nine NFL seasons with the Jags.

ProFootballFocus.com ranked Smith 16th among all inside linebackers in 2013 (Dansby was fifth, Jackson was 42nd).

Next up for the Ravens: Adding another Smith to the fold -- wide receiver Steve Smith.
