One of the most active teams in this offseason's free agency period just picked up a starting offensive lineman in Evan Dietrich-Smith, the team announced Friday.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (@TBBuccaneers) March 14, 2014
Dietrich-Smith -- who reportedly will be paid $14.25 million (with $7.25 million guaranteed) on his new four-year contract -- was the No. 63 player on the CBSSports.com free agent list. He started at center for the Packers last season, but he also has played left and right guard for Green Bay since he began his career in 2009.
The Packers reportedly had interest in re-signing Dietrich-Smith, and the Giants reportedly thought about replacing former center David Baas with the man who ranked No. 8 on the Pro Football Focus list for all NFL centers in 2013.
Dietrich-Smith, it should be noted, is the sixth player from the CBSSports.com top-100 list to sign with Tampa Bay this offseason, along with defensive end Michael Johnson, cornerback Alterraun Verner, defensive tackle Clinton McDonald, offensive tackle Anthony Collins and quarterback Josh McCown.
