There's a new twist in the DeSean Jackson trade speculation, and that twist is that the speculation can stop because Jackson won't be traded. The Eagles wide receiver sent out a tweet early Tuesday morning saying that he talked to 'Big Chip' and Jackson now seems to be under the impression that he won't be traded.
Good to Talk to BIg Chip today !! Say or hear what ya want !! The Picture speaks for itself !! Winner… http://t.co/LHYQLmPoHo— Desean Jackson (@DeseanJackson10) March 25, 2014
After speaking with Eagles coach Chip Kelly on Monday, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Jackson called a few teammates and told them he's staying in Philadelphia.
So what exactly did Chip Kelly tell Jackson?
Source in DeSean's camp says Chip told him to not worry about anything, keep working, and be ready for camp. Not an ironclad no trade, but..— Les Bowen (@LesBowen) March 25, 2014
The conversation between Kelly and Jackson just adds more mystery to the wide receiver's future in Philadelphia. The Eagles reportedly made the decision to move on from Jackson as early as February and possibly even earlier than that. Since then, almost every NFL team in need of a wide receiver has been linked to the Eagles in trade talks.
It's not inconceivable that Kelly changed his mind and decided to keep Jackson. It's also possible that the Eagles just couldn't unload Jackson's contract, a deal that will pay him over $10 million in 2014 and still has three years left.
Whatever the situation is, the Eagles have remained tight-lipped about their plans. "He's still under contract for us and until there's anything to report on our players, that's where we are now," general manager Howie Roseman said on Monday.
As for Jackson, who caught 82 passes for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns in 2013, he seems pretty confident that he'll remain in Philly and that the media is wrong about the Eagles' plans to dump him.
