Though Eagles coach Chip Kelly is on record that Nick Foles is his starting quarterback -- way into the future, apparently -- he also seems pleased to be bringing in former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez as the backup.

And Sanchez seems happy to be joining Kelly.

"Coach Kelly really is on the cutting edge of the NFL," Sanchez said during his Friday morning press conference, via the Philly Daily News. "He's one of those guys who has a really exciting vision for the future. I think he is on a constant pursuit of a competitive edge. He's an excitable person. I think as an offensive mind, I'm going to do nothing but learn here."

Sanchez had a rough ride last season, dealing with a 2013 injury that never allowed him to play (or compete with Geno Smith for the New York starting job that had been his for the previous four years) and then being allowed to walk into free agency by the team that drafted him No. 5 overall in 2009.

But now that he's in Philadelphia, Sanchez gets another chance. As such, he appeared at his presser without a fu manchu mustache or headband anywhere in sight.

As you can see in the photo below, via the Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane.

But Sanchez appears ready for his new chance. Sure, he won't make as much money -- he could earn as much as $4 million for the year, but his base salary is $2.5 million -- and he doesn't have long-term security, but he's ready to prove himself.

"I'm confident in my skills," he said. "I'm going to compete to be the best player I can possibly be ... put my head down and work," he said. "I'm always going to want to start. I think Matt Barkley wants to start. I think G.J. Kinne wants to start. Greg McElroy (in New York) wanted to start ... I don't think there's anything wrong with having that drive."
